End-of-term review of performance of the Forest Management Plan 2014-2023

Publication Date

The Forest Management Plan 2014-2023 (prepared in accordance with the Conservation and Land Management Act 1984) provides the overall policy framework for protecting and managing forests on public lands in our south-west.

The end-of-term review of performance of the Forest Management Plan 2014-2023 (end-of-term performance review) is an important process to highlight both current achievements and areas of future focus.

In response to the 17 recommendations made by the Conservation and Parks Commission (the Commission) in 2018-19 when it undertook the Mid-term review of performance of the Forest Management Plan 2014-2023 (mid-term performance review), the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has provided additional information on a range of matters, including threatened flora and fauna, management of weeds and pest animals, fire management and carbon inventory.

With the State Government’s announcement in September 2021 to end large-scale commercial timber harvesting in south-west native forests from 2024, the Commission is now focussed on developing the Forest Management Plan 2024-2033.

Responding to the ongoing impacts of climate change on south-west native forests will be a key element of the Forest Management Plan 2024-2033.

The Commission is committed to consulting with Aboriginal representatives throughout the review process.
